Girls' Rugby in The Netherlands
Even though Girls' Rugby is still growing, girls still play mixed competition with the boys in The Netherlands. However, the ratio is hardly ever more than 10% girls vs. 90% boys. Unfortunately, it is not yet possible to set up a competition on national level because the clubs and regions simply don't have the capacity. There is a lack of volume.
At this moment there is no clear pathway for identifying, selecting and developing motivated and talented rugby girls. Only boys can be identified as talents and are thus eligible for selections and scouts for the National Youth Teams.
In cooperation with Rugby Academies Netherlands (RANL) we want to support Girls' Rugby in the Netherlands by nurturing our girls' presence, motivation and their ambitions before they can go to the Senior Ladies Teams once they are U18. It hardly ever occurs that girls are allowed on U18's Boys' squads due to the physical aspects.

U14 and U16
Currently, we have a U14 Team and a U16 Team, and we wish to expand with a U18 Girls Talent Team if it doesn't interfere with the national U18's Girls Squad.
We have two levels:
A - The Talent Team who can compete in the toughest competition.
B - The Development Team: not quite ready for the toughest competition but ready for friendly games against equals.
Both teams have girls from all over the country. The teams train once to twice a month and will go on trips and training camps for tournaments and fixtures abroad. The purpose of these trips is that the girls can compete with mere girls' teams and peers.

Always the right opponent...?!
For fixtures abroad, we take a close look at the different age bands per country. Especially in The UK it differs greatly from the Dutch format. We want to avoid dispensation or the risk that girls are not allowed to play. Therefore we take into account the classification of the country we play against. In order to get the most out of the experience, we opt for the UK standard for the UK trips. We believe that, in the end, everyone will benefit the most if we make age-specific teams and we don't have worry about exclusion due to different age bands. This way we can also create equal teams, which is also best for player welfare.
